Baptiste Giabiconi’s story is much less glamorous than the covers of magazines he is on since now two years. He did not have an easy childhood in Corsica and then Marseille, as he was raised by a single mom working in the social field of the city hall and fighting to live decently.
We could think that beauty opened quickly all the doors to him, but it wasn’t, and here the story becomes interesting.
Baptiste wasn’t born handsome. When he was a teenager, he was not graceful : skinny, emaciated face, he escapes his reality by singing and dreaming of his idols, David Bowie, Jim Morrison or Dave Gahan from The Depeche Mode.
Working in an aeronotic industry, he decides to work out and spends hours in a new gym to scultp his body. That’s where he meets a women who suggests him to create a photo book.
Next?
Baptiste goes from casting to casting without real success, while he keeps singing aside. And the story gets suddenly faster. In 2008, noticed by Karl Lagarfeld, who definitely has a talent for noticing future stars, he becomes Chanel’s egery. The ugly duckling has become a swan, and his career rises.
In hardly two years, he becomes the number one male model in the world.
Vogue, Elle, Marie-Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, l’Officiel... all the fashion magazines want and Americans say he is the most handsome French man since Alain Delon. Seems like tables turned, didn’t they ?
The story could stop here if Baptiste’s passion for singing was not so consuming. And here again, it’s this encounter that is going to make his dream come true.
During a T.V. documentary about him, Baptiste meets the one who is going to become his producer, Hajjaji.
Together they decide to create an electro-glam-rock album, inspiring themselves from Baptiste’s music influences, and from his experience in the fashion world.
Produced by Be First Media, Showtime, the first single from his upcoming album in 2011, has been composed by Thom Carslym and Mats Rossander and realized by Kore (Florida, Pittbull, Shaggy...).
The theme? No matter the prejudices, if you want to fulfill yourself, go ahead, and let the show begin.
From the podiums to the scene, there was only one step. And it seems that Baptiste stepped in.
