I was surprised to read (in The Los Angeles Times) that the Biden administration’s “model for America” is … California! He wants “Make America California”.
It is a terrible idea.
Californians are now rushing to leave California.
Some hopeful people are still moving there, but so many are leaving that California now loses over 10,000 citizens every month. In fact, the state will soon lose a seat in Congress.
Why are Californians leaving? “Exorbitant tax rates, high crime rates, failing public school systems, exorbitant cost of living,” says journalist Kristen Tate in my new video.
So many Californians are moving that there is even a shortage of U-Hauls. Renting one to go from Los Angeles to Houston costs four times more than to go from Houston to Los Angeles.
“People are emptying!” Tate said.
But it sounds crazy. California has great weather and all kinds of natural benefits.
State politicians hunt people with bad policies.
Asked by Stossel TV if it’s a bad idea for President Joe Biden to “make the United States more like California,” Gavin Newsom’s office responded with a statement saying, “Before the COVID pandemic, California has experienced job growth and a record unemployment rate. “
Wow. Is that so?
Oh, that was a California record. Before the pandemic, the state’s unemployment was the 12th worst in America. Now it’s the 3rd worst.
The statement continues, “We remain the fifth largest economy in the world … home to 20 of Fortune’s fastest growing companies.”
But that only means California was welcoming for business years ago. Now, Oracle, Tesla, and many other companies are moving their businesses to other states.
One of the main reasons is California’s onerous regulations. They make it difficult to create something new. It is also a reason why housing is so expensive.
California passed a law raising its minimum wage from $ 13 to $ 15 / hr. This is one of the reasons why many Californians cannot find any legal work.
One good thing about America with 50 states is that when states fail, we can learn from their mistakes. People defeated by California rules move to Nevada or Texas. But if the federal government passes California’s rules, where can we go?
The Congressional Budget Office says a national minimum wage of $ 15 will help some people, but cost 1.4 million jobs.
Still, Biden wants the higher minimum.
Biden’s plan for America also includes a new version of Cash for Clunkers, the absurd program that once paid people for junk old cars. California has its own version, which the state says helps cut emissions.
“But most of the cars that were handed over weren’t even actively registered,” says Tate. “That means they were probably going to be abandoned anyway! These programs are failures … but they make environmentalists feel good.”
Like the California “clean energy” rules. How long before all American motorists pay the $ 4 / gallon Californians pay? Or the $ 7 people pay in Norway and Denmark?
Biden also chose a lot of Californians for his administration.
When Vice President Kamala Harris was a district attorney in San Francisco, she oversaw 1,900 pot convictions. Yet she has since joked about her own use of marijuana. When the Biden administration fired staff members for using marijuana in the past, Harris was spared.
“Unfortunately, there has been a tendency in the Biden administration to give jobs to people who could tick boxes (race and gender),” Tate says. “But they have a terrible track record.”
Biden has made Alejandro Mayorkas the new Homeland Security Secretary for Alejandro Mayorkas, even though he has been cited by the Inspector General for pressuring his staff to approve visas for politically powerful Democrats .
“In government you always fail,” complains Tate.
The LA Times wrote that Biden would not appoint California Labor Secretary Julie Su because “rampant levels of fraud were scuttling (his) prospects.” Biden then appointed his assistant secretary at work.
“If we make America California,” Tate concludes, “we’re all going to pay the price.”
At least Californians can move to other states.
But I don’t want to leave America.
