Today is the last day to file a claim under the Flint Water Settlement Program, which totals approximately $ 641 million. If you have been affected, find out below how to register before the deadline.
In April 2014, Flint’s water supply was transferred from the city of Detroit to Flint River. The corrosive water caused lead to leach from the pipes, contaminating the supply and poisoning residents of Flint. A dozen people died from Legionnaires’ disease, which was blamed on the water supply.
The city of Flint, Michigan, McLaren Regional Medical Center and the Rowe Professional Services Company added to the fund, with the first two contributing $ 20 million each, and the second contributing $ 1.25 million, bringing the total to $ 641.2 million.
Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said in a statement: “While no amount of money will heal the wounds inflicted on this community, we are happy to see more entities getting involved and taking responsibility. residents of the town of Flint deserve justice and they deserve a resolution of these lawsuits. “
The bulk of the colony, 79.5 percent, will go to those who were children at the time, as they are particularly vulnerable to the effects of lead poisoning. Eighteen percent will go to adult and property damage, 2 percent will go to special education, and 0.5 percent will go to business losses.
More than 33,000 people have registered to be part of the colony, as reported by Michigan Radio. However, if someone affected by the water crisis has not yet registered, today is their last chance.
