Kid Rock doubled down on his homophobic remarks after receiving heavy criticism for using an insult at a concert, and now the country rap rock star is being criticized again for using the same term on Twitter days later.
The musician, real name Robert Ritchie, was recorded angrily shouting the f-word while on stage at a concert in Tennessee last Saturday.
In footage released by TMZ, Ritchie appears to get enraged when a member of the audience uses a cell phone to record the concert and shouts “f ****** f ******” at them.
He says to the crowd “F *** your iPhone” then says “you can post this” while gesturing towards his crotch.
“You f ****** f ****** with your phones,” he adds before the video is cut.
The incident went viral earlier this week and Ritchie has been widely condemned on Twitter.
However, the 50-year-old appeared without remorse and doubled down on his comments and even repeated the insult.
Taking to Twitter and referring to himself in the third person, Kid Rock posted on June 9: “If Kid Rock uses the word f ****** offends you, chances are you be one.
“Either way, I know he has a lot of love for his gay friends and I’ll have a chat with him. Have a nice day.”
He signed the “Bob Ritchie” tweet.
Unsurprisingly, the tweet was not well received as Ritchie received a new conviction for using homophobic language.
A response to the tweet reads: “I’m so confused right now. Did you use your real name to justify your stage character’s bad behavior? And while pronouncing Old Clanger” some of his best friends are gay ” Yes, I had to Google ‘Bob Ritchie’. No, I’m not gay, I just have an open mind. “
While another added, “Someone with gay friends wouldn’t use that word as an insult. Take advantage of the continued loss of fans and revenue.”
Another added: “Do you understand the number of people that you have injured today? I don’t think these people will ever be able to overcome what you just said. You may have free speech, but your rights end where their feelings begin. “
Meanwhile, activist Charlotte Clymer berated Ritchie in a viral tweet, poking fun at her redneck persona.
“My favorite fact about Kid Rock is that he comes across as an avatar of America’s blue collar and redneck culture, but he literally grew up in a wealthy family on a large estate and never did really experienced the blue collar struggle, ”she tweeted.
News week has contacted Ritchie’s reps for comment.
