Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) Has been criticized on Twitter after announcing that she will soon reveal the winner of her ‘gun gift’.
Greene told his Twitter followers on Monday that the winner of a weapon worth $ 2,860 would be announced on Tuesday, while noting that more than 118,000 people had entered to win the weapon. Greene’s tweet and giveaway were criticized by Twitter users before the winner was announced. Some have called for Greene’s resignation or described it as a “disgrace”, while others have expressed fears the weapon will be used in a deadly mass shooting.
“You are not just a shame for America and Congress, you are a shame on the human race,” actor Kaj-Erik Eriksen tweeted.
“This is a mass shootout waiting to happen,” @ scottp33 tweeted.
“This nut should be on a watch list,” tweeted Walter Schaub, former director of the US Bureau of Government Ethics.
“You have to announce your resignation,” @EdaMagician tweeted.
“How long do you think it will take before someone kills another person with it?” tweeted @ LuckyMe1950.
“I want you to imagine for a second what the sausage in this ‘gun gift’ could do with their prize,” tweeted @CancelFascism. “You’re taking a big, stupid risk giving this away. If they use against someone, it’s on you.”
Imagine Dragons bassist Ben McKee responded to Greene’s tweet saying that she and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Another ardent gun advocate and GOP House freshman. 2021, “Actively make the lives of children with leukemia back by spreading lies about the bones. Marrow.”
“They are heartless clowns and don’t deserve to be re-elected,” McKee tweeted.
McKee noted that Greene and Boebert were the only two lawmakers in the House to vote last month against the national bone marrow donation program, a service that could save the lives of people with life-threatening blood diseases. At the time of the vote, Greene’s spokesperson Nick Dyer said Newsweek in a statement that the program could be used for “taxpayer-aborted fetal tissue funding”.
Greene organized several gun gifts. The contest she tweeted on Monday was also promoted a day after President Joe Biden issued three executive orders aimed at strengthening gun regulations last month. Greene tweeted that subscribers would have to come in to earn the gun “before Joe Biden tries to ban it.”
Greene, who was strongly associated with the false conspiracy theory QAnon when she ran for Congress, donates a “Honey Badger” pistol made by gunmaker Q.
