World No. 2 Alexander Zverev has returned to the practice court but he is not ready yet to make the call on his US Open participation. Zverev, who tore several ankle ligaments at the French Open, practiced “very carefully” in his return to courts .

Zverev is happy to be given the green light to practice again, but he is remaining very cautious as he doesn’t want to suffer a setback. In his first practice back, Zverev didn’t feel any foot pain – which is a very positive sign.

“Of course I moved very carefully, I haven’t built up any pressure on my foot yet, but it’s just good news that I really haven’t had any pain at all – now we can move on,” Zverev told n-tv .de.

Zverev will take more time before he makes the call on the US Open

The US Open starts in August 29 and theoretically there is still a chance the German plays at Flushing Meadows this year.

“It’s too early [to make a decision about the US Open]I played tennis for the first time now,” Zverev noted.

While sidelined, Zverev decided to go publicly with his story about battling a Type 1 diabetes.

This Saturday, Zverev launched the Alexander Zverev Foundation, which has the goal to help diabetic children across the world. “The 6th of August 2022 is a very special day for my family and I. Today, the Alexander Zverev Foundation has officially come to life , supporting children with type 1 diabetes and helping people prevent type 2 diabetes by living a healthy and active life.

Our mission is to provide insulin and life saving medicine to children in developing countries and those in need. And as a type 1 diabetic myself, I want to encourage children with diabetes to never give up on their dreams no matter what others might say to you . The only limit is the one you set yourself,” Zverev wrote on Instagram.
