Connors on why he is hoping Djokovic until he is 40

“Here’s what’s amazing, it takes a 36-year-old guy to make it amazing.

You know, that to me is the big part of it. You know, where is Zverev, where is Tsitsipas, where are they? It takes a 36-year-old guy, you know, to make that happen and for me, I love that because you know playing long is wrong? No, playing long is right.

I hope he plays, and can play until he’s 40, you know, at that level because all that does is create the interest in the youth coming up. Alcaraz, you know, who’s after Alcaraz? You know in another two or three years, who’s after him?” Connors said on the Advantage Connors podcast.

Also, Connors tipped Djokovic and Alcaraz to meet in the US Open final. “It’s 3 out of 5. It’s a two-week event. It’s on hard courts. It depends on the weather. A lot comes into it, more than just the playing of the game.

We all know they can play, some just play better than others. But if you put all that in a bowl and mix it up, who are you thinking that’s going to win the tournament? Alcaraz and Djokovic,” Connors said.
