As everyone knows, the 2022 edition of Wimbledon did not award any points after the ATP decision. In fact, the players’ association had made this decision after the British organizers made the official the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian tennis players from the Grand Slam.

This situation, however, did not benefit them at all, since it penalized several tennis players who had points to defend in the tournament and those who achieved great results in the third Major of the season. Of them, the most penalized were undoubtedly Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios, winner and finalist of the tournament, respectively.

The 21-time Grand Slam winner, before Wimbledon, had already had to miss several important tournaments such as the Australian Open and the first two American 1,000 due to his condition for not having been vaccinated against Covid 19.

Added to this was his subsequent absence in New York, Canada and Cincinnati due to the same situation. All this made the Serb unable to defend the 5,200 points, but even if Wimbledon had awarded him the points he would have found himself below the two Spaniards Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.

The Australian Nick Kyrgios, current number twenty in the world, could instead have occupied thirteenth place, thus equaling his best classification achieved on October 24, 2016, and it would have been a fair reward for an excellent season with more continuity from Canberra, 27 years old.

Another penalized is the Italian Jannik Sinner, who could have been in the top ten at this point, as was Taylor Fritz. Instead, both are ranked twelfth and eleventh, respectively. Novak Djokovic admitted that the long hiatus after Wimbledon, although not ideal, worked as a blessing for him and increased his “hunger for victory”

Nole defeated Pospisil in Tel Aviv

Former Wimbledon doubles champion Vasek Pospisil has revealed that it is always tough for him to play against Novak Djokovic since they are good friends. “The last couple of weeks, especially in Tel Aviv, I was playing at a really high level,” he said .

“Played a great match against Novak, where I thought I was quite competitive and it is always tough as he is a really good friend of mine and so I had to battle the fact that he is a good buddy and one of the feared players in the history of our sport.

I had to turn all of that into going out there and believing that I could win, which I managed to do, which isn’t always the case. I think it is also a testament to the fact that I have been playing better and working hard and I wanted to win that match,” Pospisil said.

“I think the tennis showed it and he’s super gracious and said some really nice things to me after the match and gave me lot of confidence as well,” he added.
