Stefanos Tsitsipas started the pre-season in the best possible way by triumphing at the exhibition tournament of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, after beating Andrey Rublev in the third set. The Greek, who had a 2022 of ups and downs, is testing his physical and technical condition in view of the imminent new tennis season.
Waiting to try the further and definitive leap in quality for 2023 in terms of trophies and world rankings, the Greek talked about the sensations he received from the court, and his level fielded in Mubadala, in an interview at National News.
He said: “It’s been great, I felt very free on the court, covering much better. I’ve been very consistent with my serve, which has helped me a lot. I know this is an exhibition and that I would like to play like this in ATP events, but I still see it as a very positive thing.
I hope I can continue to work on my game like this.”
Tsitsipas on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Stefanos Tsitsipas who had given the interview a few hours before the final of the soccer world championship won by Argentina on penalties against France after one of the most beautiful matches in the history of soccer, had thus expressed himself on the Argentine captain Lionel Messi: “I want Messi to win because he deserves it.
He’s an incredible talent and a great team player. He doesn’t have the physique of Cristiano Ronaldo and he probably doesn’t work as hard, but he’s the greatest of all time.” The Athens-born tennis player, who turned 24, won two trophies this year: the ATP masters 1000 on clay in Monte Carlo, second in a row of his career, and the 250m in Mallorca, on grass.
Five, however, were the finals lost: two at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome and Cincinnati, respectively against Djokovic and Coric, as well as two in the ATP 500 and one 250. He will be also one of the main star of the upcoming Australian Swing.
