After the 67 on the first day, the Basque signed a 63, seven under par at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), gaining six positions. He signed eight birdies and had a bogey (on the par 4 of the 17th).

A 67 that was also signed by the Northern Irish Rory McIlroy, which earned him to be seventh with -10. After the US Open, Jon Rahm joins the professional ranks which invalidates his qualification for the British Open 2016.
