The Spanish Jon Rahm had a great second round in the Tour Championship that earned him a rise to third place in the classification of this tournament that closes the PGA calendar bringing together the thirty best of the course, with the exception of the injured Will Zalatoris.

After the 67 on the first day, the Basque signed a 63, seven under par at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta (Georgia, USA), gaining six positions. He signed eight birdies and had a bogey (on the par 4 of the 17th).

He is -13 overall, still six shots behind the leader, American Scottie Scheffler, who made a 66 (-4) for a -19. As leader of the FedEx Cup he started with the best figure, -10. Seven ahead of Rahm’s -3 entry. Scheffler and Rahm entered another inspired player, the American Xander Schauffele, who matched Rahm’s 63 and is -17 overall.

Two off the lead, four ahead of Jon. In fourth place, with -12, are the American Patrick Cantlay, who made a 66, and the South Korean Sungjae Im, who covered Friday with a 65. Sixth is the Chilean Joaquín Niemann, with -11 tgras on 67 of the day.

A 67 that was also signed by the Northern Irish Rory McIlroy, which earned him to be seventh with -10. After the US Open, Jon Rahm joins the professional ranks which invalidates his qualification for the British Open 2016.

In his first tournament as a professional, the Quicken Loans National, he is in the lead, alone or ex-æquo, during the first two laps, and finally finished third, four strokes behind winner Billy Hurley III. This performance allows him to qualify again for the British Open, the Quicken Loans National being part of the qualifying tournaments.

He finished 2nd in the RBC Canadian Open, securing special temporary PGA Tour membership for the rest of the season. He also earned enough points as a non-member to earn a card on the PGA Tour for the 2017 season. On January 29, 2017 , he won the Farmers Insurance Open thanks to a 60-foot putt for Eagle on the last hole.

In March, he played the first World Golf Championships tournaments of his career, the WGC-Mexico Championship which he finished 3rd, then the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, a match-play tournament in which he finished 2nd, beaten in the final.
