Nick Kyrgios had become one of the favorites for the US Open trophy after the victory against Daniil Medvedev. However, it is a countryman of the Russian who avenges him in the next round: Karen Khachanov won in the quarter-finals against the Australian in a five- set marathon.
The Canberra tennis player, disappointed by the performance and the final result, decided to give vent to his anger after the game, set, match.

After the chair judge’s handshake, Kyrgios started to smash the racket with which he finished the quarter-final match.
Still not satisfied, however, the Australian took another racket and continued with the outburst, destroying the second as well.

In the press conference after the defeat against Khachanov, Kyrgios said: “Honestly at the moment I don’t care about the other tournaments.
Right now I just feel like I want to be successful in the Slams as if the other events didn’t exist. People don’t care how you played, if you made it to the quarterfinals or semifinals, people only care if you won or lost.
And I lost today. I think all the other tournaments throughout the year are a waste of time, only the Grand Slams count. Defeats here hurt more. I feel like sh*t. I feel like I’ve let people down, I don ‘t know how to explain it.
It feels like I’m playing for everyone and not just me. I feel that the four Grand Slam tournaments are the only ones that really matter, I can’t help but wait until the Australian Open. I think it’s heartbreaking right now, for me, for my friends and for my whole family.”
