Wawrinka on Federer and Nadal: “Comparison impossible”

Stan explained: “I think it’s impossible to compare Federer and Nadal to other players.

We are all different. I had my first operation in 2017 and was able to get back into the top 20. I was playing at a very good level and I was very happy with that. Now, I had a new operation and I am 37 years old. I’m not getting any younger.

It’s very difficult. I still think I can achieve important results and win tournaments. I hope to make it next season. I don’t know what kind of tournament, but as long as I enjoy and love playing tennis and do everything I have to do to give my all, I’ll keep going.

Obviously it wouldn’t be fun to lose every week. I want to experience the feeling of being able to win more games again. Match against Bublik? I am very happy with my performance. I expressed a great level, I was very focused.

I didn’t expect to play so well in the first match of the year. It’s never easy to face an opponent like Bublik, so I’m happy with my game. Captain and player in this tournament? For now things are going well, I felt great in both roles.

I was looking forward to playing the United Cup; I think the format is great and offers the possibility for male and female players to play together.”
