“If I don’t make this World Cup team, do I feel fulfilled in my career?” Kristie Mewis pondered on the Snacks podcast back in May. Flash forward to June 21st, and Mewis no longer needed to wonder. She is going to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I think I started crying before I even [picked up Vlatko Andonovksi’s] FaceTime just because everything was coming into that moment,” Mewis said of her call from the US Women’s National Team manager telling her she made the roster. “I just feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life to hear those words.”

From a young upstart, to falling off the national team ladder, from an ACL injury, and her return to the USWNT, the 32-year-old is finally headed to the world’s biggest stage.
