Chelsea are an ambitious club, dominant in England and with sights set on winning their first-ever Champions League title. This quest for success was underlined once again last week with the signing of Mayra Ramirez, the Colombian arriving from Levante of Spain for a British women’s soccer record transfer fee of £384,000 ($487,000). The whole package, including potential add-ons of up to £42,000 ($53,000), would break the world record set by Keira Walsh’s £400,000. reported £400,000 transfer to Barcelona in 2022.
It’s a special transfer, for a special player.
Ramirez, at 24 years old, is regarded as one of the most potent attacking players in the women’s game right now. She enjoyed a successful four years in Spain, first with Sporting de Huelva, then Levante. Last season, she scored 14 goals and set up 11 in just 27 league appearances. This term, before her move to Chelsea, she had hit six goals in seven Liga F games.
