Caroline likes to live in the present. A few weeks before going to her first Women’s World Cup, she is one of the key players in the Brazil squad that will travel to Australia and New Zealand in the summer. The 23-year-old is part of a group that, as she said during an interview with Brazil’s Rainhas da Copa, wants to give Brazilian legend Marta what Argentina gave to Messi — a World Cup title. According to her, it is more than motivation — it is their duty.

“When we had the first camp after her injury, in Orlando [during the SheBelieves Cup], I told her I’d do everything I could to get this cup to her. And she’s really sentimental, so, of course, she started crying,” Caroline told The Equalizer, laughing. “We have many reasons to win the World Cup, but this would be the icing on the cake. She deserves it for everything she has done for Brazil, for her history and the person she is.”

However, before joining the national team, she is focused on scoring as many goals as possible for North Carolina Courage – even though rumors of a possible transfer to Europe exist.

“My main focus now is to keep up what I’m doing here,” she said The Equalizer. “I can’t keep thinking of the future without appreciating what is going on now.”
